Time for /doll/! Anonymous Board owner 09/21/2019 (Sat) 16:41:25 No.5 [Reply]
Hello to all doll owners and doll lovers. This is /doll/, a board to discuss all dolls. This includes ball-jointed dolls, fashion dolls, porcelain/bisque dolls, china dolls, paper dolls, rag dolls, dolls of specific cultures, as well as doll-like constructs such as puppets. Dolls of all materials are welcome, as are dolls aimed at all age groups and interests. That being said, discussion of dolls intended for direct sexual contact (e.g. RealDoll) is restricted, and the subject of realistic child-like dolls intended for sexual use is forbidden. Please remember to read and follow the rules at https://anon.cafe/doll/rules.html so we can all take it easy and enjoy /doll/ life. We Have Friends /robowaifu/ is a wonderful board discussing the possibility of, well, having robowaifus. If you're seriously interested in having a robotic life companion, your should check them out! https://alogs.space/robowaifu/

Doll Backstory/Product Writing Anonymous 01/20/2021 (Wed) 02:13:14 No.213 [Reply]
What do you think of the personalities, stories, and other such writing some companies put forth to help sell their products? Do you have a story or personality you've given to your dolls yourself? Does this help sell it to you? Or just share notable ones you've seen. I'm amused by this one, as it first reminds me of Deus Ex, but then is more anime and reminds me of SaiKano (or something like that, saw it 10 years ago). It's kind of really silly. Simpler ones endear me to the dolls more than complex ones.

I usually find companies' doll blurbs to be pleasant enough. I think Volks' blurbs strike a good balance considering how bare-bones they are. Danny Choo's are a great example of what not to do. As for my own dolls, I do assign them personalities and character. It's not a conscious thing on my part, I just kind of let the doll manifest as I look at her, dress her, and pose her. One of my girls turned out to be kind with a quietly lewd streak (she always seems to have her hands on the others), another is a grumpy door kicker, a third is mischievous, a fourth is a simmering little sexpot who has no actual experience and has her bluff shattered easily, and the other two are character dolls who haven't yet gained enough of a signature for me to tell them apart from the characters they were made for. I also have one Mini Sweets doll whose only personality in my mind is "smol". I've seen other people go to great lengths in their doll profiles, some scarily so. If that's their thing then more power to them, I says.

I remember there was a 'story writer' that had a simplistic fill-in-the-blanks approach to create an intial story ruff. Anyone know about this?

I have something like pic related and always wonder if I can turn it to a more human form by sculpting it. It's a wood articulated figurine used to learn drawing. I'm not that good at sculpting but as they are cheap I woud not mind trying. Do you guys ever attempted at making your own dolls from A to Z, like sculpting it from wood or 3D printed parts ? What tools would you use and what parts should I buy separately (eyes, wigs...) Let us know, even your failed attempt can be some good teaching points for anyone willing to try this.
Wood carving is very hard. I'd recommend that you start with some cheaper scrap wood that way it's really low risk. I need to get back into doing it since it's very focusing. It's a nice way to apply yourself. I'd never considered carving my own dolls but if I pick it back up I'll definitely give my hand at it.
>>368 I have some practice in carving (wood and stone), but I never try doing things that require precision so I believe the face should be the more difficult part. I need to train myself. Also I would need some really fine chisels.

similar style to iplehouse bjd dolls. http://shop2.pjy0216.cafe24.com/main.html
>>160 I don't know if there is anyone here anymore...anyway, I finally got my first bjd after years of wanting one! She's full set Myou Doll Delia, I will post pics later. As someone who collected 1/6 plastic fashion dolls for years, I was afraid she would be too big for me and I would dislike the resin material, but those fears didn't come true. I enjoy her size and love the smooth feeling of her. My few nitpicks are: 1. the dress is closed by zipper rather than buttons 2. the body blushing is too heavy, she looks she has rush 3. the wig is too small 4. the dress has a lot of loose strings coming out 5. the shoes tend to fall. Despite all those flaws I'm really happy to own her, the sculpt and faceup are gorgeous!

I'm thinking about adopting one of these little cuties. I have some precise idea of what I want but I have trouble finding the right way to go. I looked on Volks site (USA and Japan) however I don't understand how things works... As far as I know if I want a specific doll with the body I chose, the eyes, the wig... I have to buy them seprarately. The problem is I'm affraid I cannot build it properly. Does they provide assembling service ? Is it difficult to assemble you first doll ? The most difficult part should be the makeup, I'm so affraid to ruin it... Idealy I would like the MDD Mochi-Ashi Base Body (DD-f3) / Semi-White, her thighs are so gorgeous...

(Bi?)Monthly Doll Club Anonymous 11/11/2019 (Mon) 15:33:29 No.89 [Reply]
Anon! Your doll's been feeling a little lonely lately. Why don't you take her down, pose her, and post a few quick photos of her ITT?

This thread is to help us enjoy our dolls instead of letting them gather dust. The club activity is simple: Get (one of) your doll(s), change a piece of their clothing (it doesn't have to be their entire outfit) or an accessory/wig/etc., pose them, and post a photo of them ITT. It doesn't matter how small the change or shitty the photo, the point is to enjoy spending a little time with your doll. Lewd BJDs are welcome too.

The recommended frequency is monthly or bimonthly. If you have one or two dolls, consider participating at least once a month. If you have more than two dolls, consider participating at least twice a month.

I'll start us off with Ellie here. She's an Angel Philia doll who I haven't decided on a proper name for yet. I changed her out of cute blue frilly Volks dress into something a little more Angel Philiaish. I was surprised by how cute she looked in it and ended up taking more photos than I intended using proper lights and so on.

Your turn, Anon!

>>197 I have both. The deka hands work well for photos since they emphasise motion and pose in the shot, but I find them too large for longer term posing by eye. Also, some hands are only available in deka. Are you custom-building your doll, Anon?

Shizuka Miura. Poetess, singer and doll maker Dolly Lama 10/19/2022 (Wed) 17:03:52 No.348 [Reply]
Hi dolls enthusiasts, just want to share this with you. Shizuka Miura (三浦静香) was a Japanese doll-maker and musician who created many works of unearthly beauty during her lifetime. An apprentice of the legendary doll-maker Katan Amano (天野可淡), Shizuka started her artistic career making ball-jointed dolls. Then, under the influence of her husband Maki Miura (三浦真樹), a seasoned guitarist who had played in such notable acts as Les Rallizes Dénudés and Fushitsusha, she began writing songs based on her poems. Before long, with the help of Maki and a couple of other underground musicians, around the frontwoman emerged a band — simply called Shizuka (静香). Few officially remains available from Shizuka’s doll work as she likely never had an artbook published. Still, many images of her dolls were uploaded to the Web and, in 2018, were in exposition in Ginza, Tokyo, by the doll gallery Maria Cuore (マリアの心臓). Furthermore, Shizuka was a member of a mysterious gothic doll club named “Glamorous Area”, which existed from 2001 to 2010. I discovered the musician then as I was looking to know more about her I figured she was a quite recognized doll maker in Japan. Few can be found about this past activity expect some photography here and there : https://shizuka-g.gitlab.io/in-memory-of-shizuka-miura/gallery.html http://glamorousarea.easter.ne.jp/vampire-next.htm If you understand Japanese, you can maybe find more here: https://www.mariacuore.jp/exhibition/ As you can see, her dolls can be quite creepy and highly expressive. You can see other pictures used on promotional material and cover of some PSF compilation records. Shizuka's music is absolutely wonderful, filled with powerful emotions. Here is a live excerpt where you can see some of her dolls.

>>348 These are very unique dolls indeed! Creepy ones indeed. I'm glad you shared this I'm going to have fun exploring this come soon. As of the JP link, there's unfortunately little to be seen there. Seems to be leading to a public exhibit of them that is no longer showing these dolls. That being said, there are still some neat pictures there which I've attached to this post. Beyond that, there's not really anything to note on the page.
Any other famed exhibitions of creepy beauty?

Nijiura Doll Threads Anonymous 10/06/2021 (Wed) 08:37:31 No.251 [Reply]
I'm not really a dollfag, but I do think dolls are cute and I want to help save this board from annihilation. Did you know that the residents of Futaba Channel's Nijiura may board host regular doll threads, where the "dollaki" all post pictures of their dolls? Did you know that there's a site out there archiving all of these threads and images? http://nijiura-doll.info/fullmirror/ is an archive of the daily 10PM doll threads on Nijiura may, and goes all the way back to 2006. http://may.nijiura-doll.info/ is an archive for the other doll threads on Nijiura may, and currently goes back to 2017 (it used to go back much further, but the years prior to 2017 have been removed due to lack of disk space). http://nijiura-doll.info/wiki.cgi is a small wiki maintained by the dollaki that contains various guides and other bits of information about dolls and the doll threads. http://biningyou-tokei.info/ is a cute doll clock website they made that changes to a different doll picture every minute.
